In India Surrogacy is on a much lesser scale. It has become more complicated after the introduction of the surrogacy bill in 2016.

Among 1.25 to 1.5 lakh IVF cases performed in India in a calendar year, only 6thousand are surrogacy cases. As per the new rule surrogate mother should be your close relative such as sister whose age is between 25 and 35. Apart from this, there are some other tricky guidelines which have made difficult for people to avail surrogacy. This is what IVF Specialist from Delhi Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour has said. On Sunday, she addressed the representatives of GOGS present in a CME. She gave information about various techniques used in treating infertility like IVF, Surrogacy etc. The president of the society Dr Kusum lata Singhal, Dr Roza Olyai, Dr Jyoti Bindal, Dr Meena Mundra, Dr Pratishtha Dalmia and others were present in the event. It was moderated by Dr Kirti Ghore.

Invited speakers in the CME spoke about the changes happening in the medical field

Fertilised eggs are transferred in the Uterus
Dr Sachdev explained that in IVF both the egg and the sperm are kept in a glass dish so that egg can be fertilized. After that these fertilized eggs are transferred to the uterus. If the woman is not capable of bearing the child then fertilized eggs are transferred to some other lady’s uterus and she becomes the surrogate mother.

The Puranas also mention a part of this Medical Science
Dr Sachdev has said that in today’s medical science we find techniques like IVF, Test Tube Baby, Parthenogenesis and Surrogacy etc. were also known to our sages thousands of years ago. In the Mahabharata also we find examples of surrogacy. Devki’s son Balaram was actually delivered by Rohini whereas Devki was his mother. In this case Devki’s embryo was planted in Rohini’s womb. In a similar way sage Vyasdeva took 101 live cells from the foetus of Gandhari and kept them in earthen pots and after a year 100 Kauravas and 1 Dushshala were born.

Thirty percent are affected by Infertility
As per the survey conducted in Delhi, about 30 percent IVF cases are reported every year. Dr Sachdev said she discussed this with the doctors there and they also gave the same figure. Changes in lifestyle, lack of exercise, diet with less protein, stress are some of the reasons of diseases like PCOD. In this cysts form in the ovary resulting in difficulty to conceive.

Technique of Cryo Preservation is also effective
Due to late marriage and changes in lifestyle, problems in pregnancy arises. Seeing this, people have started using the technique of cryo preservation. Using this, one can preserve her eggs beforehand and can choose the birth of the baby according to her convenience. Currently we can find this trend among the celebrities of Holly hood. SOURCE
